Phuket

Phuket is Thailand's largest island. It is 48 km in length, 21 km at its widest, and is located in Southern Thailand, on the west-facing Andaman Sea coastline. Phuket is blessed with magnificent coves and bays, powdery, palm-fringed white beaches, sparkling island-dotted seas, sincerely hospitable people and delightful turn-of-the-century Sino-Portuguese architecture; numerous sporting and leisure opportunities; a lush tropical landscape – all of which combine to create a delightful ambience for truly memorable holidays.

Climate: Phuket has two major seasons: the Rains Season from May through October, and the Hot Season from November through April. There are many sunny days throughout the Rains Season: showers customarily last little more than 2 hours. The best months are November through February. Average temperatures range between 22 and 34 degrees Celsius.

Languages and Religions:
The official language is Thai, but a local south Thai dialect is widely spoken - and the large indigenous Chinese minority still makes limited use of Hokien and other Chinese dialects. 75 percent of the islanders are Buddhist (this includes the Chinese Buddhists), 22 percent Muslim and 3 percent Christian. There are 30 main Buddhist temples, 34 Mosques and 2 churches.

Sports and Activities:
You can enjoy a range of recreational activities from scuba diving, snorkeling, yachting, and parasailing. Most dive sites are off nearby islands. The golf courses of Phuket are of international standard. Each one has its own particular challenges and scenic splendour that only Phuket can offer.

Bird's nests: Phukets famous high-quality birds nests are popular souvenirs among Asian tourists.
Ceramics: Ceramics of Phuket are unique souvenirs. Popular products are household utilities, kitchenware and decorative items. All are embedded with distinctive designs. ·
Gems & Jewelry: Rubies and sapphires are the most popular, best-buy items. Most offer unique jewelry designs and provide custom-made jewelry. ·
Seashells: Seashell products rank among top-five most purchased souvenirs. They are made into ornaments and gift items.

Travel tips:
Thailand´s time zone is GMT+7, seven hours ahead of GMT/UTC (London). Electricity is 220 volts/ 50 cycles. Bring light clothing, including shorts and swimwear. Cotton is much cooler than synthetic materials. Sunglasses are a must. A brimmed hat is also advisable if you're going to be spending time on the water.
